Handheld Management Guide
Configuring Handheld Software on an
administration computer
To upgrade Handheld Software, install the software upgrade from your service provider either on an
administration computer that is running the BlackBerry Manager or on another computer.
After you install the Handheld Software on an administration computer, configure the Handheld
Software. If you make a software upgrade required, the upgrade appears selected when users start the
Application Loader. After you configure the Handheld Software, share the directory where the Handheld
Software resides.
The Application Loader is provided both as a standalone program within the Handheld Software
installation files and on the BlackBerry Enterprise Server. You must share the software loading tool from
the computer on which you installed the software upgrade. This enables you to send a link to users who
can start the Application Loader from the shared software directory without having to install the
BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
The Application Loader searches the shared software directory for Handheld Software to install on
handhelds. Users access the Application Loader from their computers to install handheld upgrades. You
can use the BlackBerry Manager from a central location to load Handheld Software onto handhelds.
