3: Controlling Handheld Software applications
Controlling Handheld Software applications
You control Research In Motion (RIM) Handheld Software and third-party software applications from the
administration computer by modifying the software configuration assigned to a user. You can install or
remove the same software applications on multiple handhelds at the same time using the same software
configuration. This method loads multiple handhelds while minimizing your interaction with the
BlackBerry Manager.
You can also interact with the software application loading process for full control over the applications
installed on or removed from individual handhelds. This method loads each handheld one at a time.
Define which applications are installed on handhelds
1. Connect the handheld to the administration computer on which the BlackBerry Manager is installed.
2. Perform one of the following actions:
Controlling third-party software applications
You can send third-party applications to handhelds wirelessly. You can define and assign IT policies to
users and application control policies to software configurations for additional administrative control
over third-party applications on handhelds.
Application control policies define the specific resources that third-party applications can access on the
handheld and behind the corporate firewall. Application control policies can also be used to make sure
that third-party applications remain installed on handhelds and undesired third-party applications are
removed from handhelds.
