Enabling email prepopulation
The BlackBerry Enterprise Server™ populates previously received email messages automatically onto a
handheld when a new handheld is deployed to a user if the handheld is running Handheld Software
version 4.0. The maximum number of days to go back (from the present day) to prepopulate email
messages is 7, and the maximum number of email messages that can be populated on the handheld is
350.
Email prepopulation adheres to the email filter rules and folder redirection settings, including the Sent
Items folder, specified in the user’s Desktop Manager or in the BlackBerry Manager when prepopulation
starts.
When email pre-population is enabled, users might receive duplicate email messages in the following
situations:
• If a user receives a replacement handheld and restores backed up email messages from the previous
handheld, the user receives duplicate email messages on the new handheld within the specified
range of the email prepopulation settings.
• If you remove a user from the BlackBerry Enterprise Server, then re-add the same user to the
BlackBerry Enterprise Server, and then the user deploys their existing handheld, the user receives
duplicate email messages on the handheld.
You can disable email prepopulation if a user received a replacement handheld and backed up their
previously received email messages on their computer.
Configure email prepopulation for a user

2. On the Server Configuration tab, click Edit Properties.
